Going to the Auction (House Market)

Do you ever try to go eat somewhere with someone and you can’t agree on a place? Whether it’s your boyfriend, best friend, sister, parents, whoever. You likely have experienced a time like this. I know I have. Well, no more with Auction House Market in New Orleans's Warehouse District. I feel like places similar to this have been popping up lately and are typically in larger cities more. I’ve been to a few, one in Dallas (well actually Plano), which was so fun, and I think one in Chicago.

So, what is it? It’s a place that has different restaurant vendors. You walk into this cute building decorated with plants and greenery. When we went, there was only three vendors open plus the bar (woohoo). From when it opens until 5, they have a little bakery and coffee bar, which I definitely want to go back for. From looking at it online, it looks really good. There was a sushi bar open called Asian Licious, a seafood place called Elysian Seafood, and an Indian place called Tava. When we went this past Saturday, we got a sushi roll from Asian Licious and a dosa from Tava. We got the Saint roll, which was honestly one of the biggest sushi rolls I’ve ever gotten (pictured). I feel like there were so many more pieces than other rolls that I've had before. It also came with miso soup, and it was some of the best miso soup I’ve ever had. It was somewhat different too. I would obviously recommend both. From Tava, we got the gunpowder dosa with chicken tikka masala and a side of spicy garlic aioli chutney. Y’all! I have never had anything like this before (that I can remember), and it was amazing! It was kinda like a crepe, which was good because Austin and I gave up bread and pasta for Lent. We decided that crepes weren’t really bread…I mean it’s not doughy right? It had chicken, a tomato, onion, cilantro mix, and gunpowder, which was a seasoning. It was delicious, and the dipping sauce that we got with it was really good too. We absolutely loved this dish and already want to go get another one…like to the point that we contemplated (separately) going again on Sunday AND Monday night. Next time, I want to add cheese to it and try a different sauce and protein. They had one with chickpeas, which sounded really good to me and perfect for Fridays during Lent. I thought about getting a cup of red beans and rice or seafood gumbo from Elysian seafood, but with the other 2 things we got, I decided to just wait until next time since I know I’ll be going back. Elysian also had different poboys, which I'm sure taste great.

Oh, and I almost forgot our drinks! The bar is open all day with a happy hour from 4-7 on weekdays. We didn’t make happy hour since we went on a Saturday but still got drinks, of course. I got a vodka gimlet with butterfly pea, which made it purple (my favorite color 💜). It tasted really fresh and was pretty…what a great combo. I would definitely recommend! Austin got an old fashion, which he enjoyed. I think we need to get this boy another bourbon drink. Any suggestions? We sat next to the bar (since we can’t actually sit at the bar because of corona ugh!), so we got to talk to the bartender a little bit. She told us that 2 more vendors are coming March 1st (you heard it here first people!), which I’m super excited about. I’ll definitely be back in a few weeks to check out the new vendors.

Overall, I totally enjoyed Auction House and will definitely be going back. I admit that I was a little hesitant at first just because I had thought there would be more vendors, but I loved it. The ones that are already there now are absolutely amazing, and they are adding new ones, which are likely going to be just as great. If you haven’t already, you should check out Auction House Market! You won’t regret it :)

~Cheers 🥂~
